Detailed description of Fort Benning Golf Course

Fort Benning Golf Course is a Military, 18 hole golf course located in Fort Benning, Georgia

The Fort Benning Golf Course is steeped in both Golf and Military history. The first 9-hole course was opened for play in 1923. A second 9 was added in the 1930's. The 3rd 9-hole course was built in 1950 and a 4th 9 was added in 1960. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. did design work on the course in 1950 and Lester Lawrence did design work in 1960.

These four 9-hole courses made two 18-hole courses named The Lakeside Course and The Pineside Course,

Today, Fort Benning Golf Course is a 27 hole golf facility made up the old front nine of Pineside and the front nine of Lakeside and a new nine built in 2006. The 27 holes, three 9-hole courses are named after famous generals who served and played golf at Fort Benning. The courses are The Bradley Course, The Marshall Course and The Patton Course.

Second place in the 1933 Club Championship went to Major Omar Bradley.

This course is in bad shape, and the cost is high for what they offer. I guess that is why there is hardly anyone there. Charge a high price and no shows and they do not have to do anything.

It's a military base golf course. It's a great military base golf course. When I was active duty, I played this course many times. Now that I'm retired and living 3 hours away, I'm not able to play this course enough. I was visiting and able to play, and fully enjoyed my day.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

The course is not maintained. No fairways to speak of. Greens contain clumps of weeds. Mowers leave large clumps of clippings all over the course. No fringe around greens. Bunkers are like hardpan. Starter is unfriendly and yells at customers.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby, Worse than average course for the area
